“Easter community baskets –

 Learn Polish Traditions with us”

It was another great Klan action! On the occasion of past Easter, the Project Manager, Malwina Kukaj, together with a group of volunteers, organized a beautiful initiative “Easter community baskets – Learn Polish Traditions with us”.

On Wednesday, 24th March five wonderful girls packed 100 Easter baskets in just four hours for the local community. The contents of the basket were to introduce Polish Easter traditions and to give the recipients feeling lonely a bit of joy and a smile. Also inside you could find a leaflet in English describing traditions, a beautiful palm tree, cake, colouring books, arts and crafts, sweets, chocolates and an egg for Wet Monday.

Three days later, on Saturday, March 27, an even larger group of Polish Klan volunteers met outside in the parking of Hounslow Youth Centre to collect ready baskets and pre-arranged routes with addresses where they were to be delivered. 60 baskets were delivered and the remaining 40 were collected personally by community members. Thirteen Polish Klan volunteers drove off 6 cars in different directions, starting from Hounslow, Ealing, Greenford, Southall, Stanwell, Feltham, Isleworth and even Richmond.

The whole team was very grateful that they could once again make others happy and give them a little smile and kindness, in this difficult period of the pandemic that has been going on for over a year.

The action could not take place without the main founder, The National Lottery Community Fund and Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London, thanks to whom the project was fully financed.

We would like to say a special thank you for the Paleta Kitchen Polish Restaurant, which ordered products from Poland, provided us (free of charge) with a packaging and storage room, and extra Polish chocolates for the baskets.

We also encourage you to watch the video from our interactive zoom session – “Learn Polish Easter traditions with us “, which took place on Palm Sunday, 28th March.

Jointly with the following organisations, we provided great fun and creatively presented Easter traditions.

* The Poland Street organization conducted Easter egg decoration workshops and a competition with prizes for children.

* Polish Community School John Paul II and Polish Klan talked about the history and meaning of Polish traditions.

* Mazury Dance Co. presented folklore traditions in a fun and creative form.

Extraordinary thanks go to the fantastic host – Marysia Suchcitz, instructor in the Polish Scouting Association in Great Britain, who fantastically introduced us to the next stages of the event. As well as special thanks to Tomasz Machura from the Polish Hearth organisation for the great technical setting. And how nice it was for us to host all the wonderful personalities who talked about Easter traditions, as well as honourable viewers. (180 people registered on Eventbrite, over 1400 on Facebook)

On behalf of the Polish Klan Association, we would like to thank the organisations: Poland Street, Mazury Dance Company and the Polish School of JP II in Feltham for their commitment and great cooperation. We hope that we will soon take joint actions to extend the promotion of Poland and Polish culture towards the different communities and by the Polish community.

Thank you for being with us on this special day.
